The annual Coastal Classic yacht race from Auckland to Russell is one of the most iconic races in the Southern Hemisphere. Gaining coverage in mainstream media has always been integral to maintaining the profile of this great event, but an even greater pressure now exists to deliver up-to-the-moment information to a news-hungry niche sailing audience via digital media. An integrated event promotion strategy that included digital, social and traditional media was therefore rolled out over six months, in the build-up to the race, throughout race day and after the event.
